King Tut Ankh Amun

He ascended to the throne after the death of his father, Akhenaten. His name was originally “Tut ankh aton”, but after his father’s death, he returned to Thebes and ruled from there, changing his name to “Tut Ankh Amun”, meaning “the living image of Amun.” He became king at the age of ten and ruled for nine years. He constructed the Hypostyle Hall at the Luxor Temple, where two statues of him and his wife, made of alabaster, stand side by side. He built his tomb in the Valley of the Kings, which remained unfinished as of his untimely death at a young age. The cause of his death is unknown. His fame stems from the discovery of his intact tomb in 1922 by Howard Carter, which we will explore in more detail in our discussion of the Valley of the Kings.
