King Pepy II
After the death of Meren-Ra, King Pepy II ascended the throne at the tender age of six. He reigned for an astonishing 94 years. Due to the length of his reign, he sent trade missions to Nubia and Phoenicia. Among the most beautiful things brought back was a dwarf from the Land of Punt, who brought great joy to the young king. One of the most famous provincial governors during his reign was Harkhuf, the governor of Aswan. Harkhuf made numerous voyages to the Land of Punt, bringing back a dwarf, a group of monkeys, as well as ivory, gold, and ebony. Due to the extended length of his reign, control over the provincial governors weakened, leading to chaos and the eventual downfall of the Sixth Dynasty and the Old Kingdom. This was followed by a period known as the First Intermediate Period.
